Sliding of the feet over the floor.
The word suri (摺) is loosely translated as sliding here, but the sense of the word is closer to the English word brush, as in a whisp of wind brushing by a reed.
Many beginners often mistake sliding as rubbing the sole of the feet over the floor. The better description for beginners would be to have the feet very closely hover above the floor to prevent rubbing or dragging, resulting in blisters, or in some cases, worse experiences. It is often taught to imagine sliding a piece of paper with their feet on the floor or have the shoshinsha actually practice with one.
